Obituary:

Services for Ben Hart, former Douglass High School and University of Oklahoma athlete, will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairview Baptist Church, 721 N Rhode Island.

Hart, 59, died last Friday in Garden City, Kan., where he was a public school administrator. Hart played football at OU and lettered as a receiver in 1964, 1965 and 1966. He led the Sooners with 565 yards on 33 catches in 1966.

He was high school back of the year at Douglass in 1962, scoring 20 touchdowns and passing for six more. He was also all-state in basketball as a senior in 1963, averaging 21.3 points a game. He was all-city in basketball as a junior and senior.

Hart coached basketball at Grandfield in 1979-80, then was football coach at Northeast High School in 1980 and 1981.

"He was the most dominant football player I've seen in Oklahoma," said former Douglass coach Stanford White, a high school classmate of Hart's. "He had unbelievable talent. He was a state champion shot putter. He was like a man playing with boys."
